...or 2 Snarky Broads and a Dude. The Singing Ladies of Oberlin present a sarcastic, snarky, twisted concert for your enjoyment! Dr. Julie Cross Mezzo-soprano ('99) and Suzanne Fatta Contralto ('97) share a selection of solo songs & duets spanning 5 centuries of music with you. Featuring all sorts of keyboards from Buff State piano instructor Robert Hull, assisted by Joel S. Kumro. Supported by a generous grant from the University of Wisconsin. Repertoire by Monteverdi, Purcell, Bach, Mozart, Rossini, Poulenc, Barber, Copland, Weill, Libby Larsen, Caroline Mallonée and jazz standards. This event was featured in my recent Buffalo Rising Sounds of Buffalo interview.
Many thanks to Joel and the staff at the gorgeous Our Lady Help of Christians for hosting the event - the Old Chapel is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a truly unique performance venue: 4125 Union Rd. Buffalo, NY 14225.
Julie and I will continue this research and performance project when we present at the biennial Feminist Theory and Music Conference this summer.
