Opera Liberata: Uncovering, Rediscovering & Reconstructing Lost Operas

  • Room 124, Rockwell Hall, Buffalo State College 1300 Elmwood Avenue Buffalo, NY, 14222 United States (map)

For the 5th year in a row, I'm giving the National Opera Week Lecture for OperaBuffs of WNYOpera Liberata: Uncovering, Rediscovering and Reconstructing Lost Operas.

Join me as we explore the rocky, frustrating and fascinating world of hidden operas. Some were lost due to fire, some due to war or political situations, and others for pretty silly reasons. With an emphasis on Vivaldi and Verdi, we'll learn about the musicological work it takes to reconstruct a score, what it's like for singers to learn a "new" work, and how we can (re)introduce masterworks to the canon. Live musical examples with Ivan Docenko, keyboards.

Free and open to the general public ~ Reception to follow. Ample parking available, fully accessible.
