Vivaldi's Women Lecture-Recital ~ Vivaldi WinterFest

  • St. Mark's 41 Byron Street Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON, L0S 1J0 Canada (map)

For the final concert of the Vivaldi WinterFest series at Music Niagara, I'm giving a Lecture-Recital "Daughters of Jerusalem: Vivaldi's Women and Contraltos en travesti." Repertoire to include the Canadian premiere of "Gelido in ogni vena" (Contralto en travesti) from Il Farnace RV 711; and Filiae Maestae Jerusalem RV 638, which concerns the sad daughters of the Jerusalem after the death of Jesus Christ; Vivaldi wrote this as a metaphor for his girls at the Ospedale della Pietà. Ticketing and venue location is here. Check out the Facebook Invite. Enjoy some fabulous instrumental repertoire as well, featuring cello by fellow Oberlin alum Jonathan Tortolano!
