FTM CONFERENCE

Julie CrossKatherine Ciesinski and I will present a scholarly Lecture-Recital at the 12th biennial Feminist Theory and Music Conference July 31-August 4, New Voices in the New Millennium. Our lecture Suppression & Revival of the Low Female Singing Voice will examine Vivaldi's Women, the case of the vanishing contralto in opera, the role vocal pedagogy has played in that suppression, and the relationship between body shape/ size/ gender and vocal range & color. We'll then perform SAB/SAT trio repertoire, including the world-premiere of Wonderful Things(based on the Anglo-Saxon Exeter Riddle Book) by FL Dunkin Wedd, to demonstrate the solo and consort possibilities of the (low) female voice. This research project is a continuation of our 2 Snarky Broads concert series.
