I'm incredibly excited to be featured as the Spotlight Model of the Month in the August 2016 issue of PLUS Model Magazine - the Editor-in-Chief, Madeline Figueroa-Jones, also has Multiple Sclerosis, so I chose this article to publicly 'out' myself having been diagnosed early this year after 12 years of not knowing.
You can navigate directly to the entire article here; check out this excerpt:
TB: You mentioned that you recently were diagnosed with MS. How did you find out and how has this affected your career?
CS: I have been suffering with what we called Mystery Disease for 12 years, which ate up a massive chunk of my life. After over a decade of mystery seizures, blindness, nausea, vomiting and intense pain, I was just diagnosed early in 2016 with both MS, and a rare spinal fluid pressure disorder. After that I went through a very dark period, but I now have clarity and focus. I was put on this earth with a broken body to help others love theirs. I’ve had bad health problems my whole life, so in a sense being restricted is par for the course for me but I was always able to make a go of it. For example I’ve had seizures on stage (I’m also an opera singer) but kept performing, as the show must go on. But these past 6 months I took a break from both singing and modeling to get my health in order, which was devastating but necessary. Now I’m back, baby!
